5
tips to prepare your website for the holidays
- Tip 1. Catchy headlines
- Tip 2. Put special offers on the home page
- Tip 3. Explain why your product would make
a great gift
- Tip 4. Cross promoting to increase your sales
- Tip 5. Quick and Convenient shipping
Tip 1:
'Choose a catchy headline'
One reason for internet businesses to lose sales
is their heading. The heading is located at the
top of the web page, it is not the title of the
URL, it is the title or brief description of the
product(s) that are being advertised. The heading
should grab someone's attention when they read
it, while stating the benefit of the product(s).
You wouldn't want to have a phrase that has nothing
to do with your product. This could do more damage
than good. Keep it simple but eye catching. Watch
your sales go up.
Tip 2:
'Put Special offers on the home page'
The holiday season is the time when people are
browsing the web looking for the perfect gift
ideas. Most surfers during this time don't browse
into sites to see what the site may offer. They
get most of their information off the home page.
If you want to convert a visitor to a customer,
you must convince them quickly that they are better
off with your product. Putting a special offer
on your home page is your best chance.
Tip 3:
'Explain why your product would make a great gift'
So you thought of a great Headline that will catch
the attention of visitors. Now is the opportunity
to convince a potential customer that the advertised
product(s) would make a great gift. Write an brief
article that explains why your product(s) would
make the perfect gift. You can include a 'Holiday
Buyer's Guide' with additional information about
your product(s). Keep the article brief but informative.
The attention span of a holiday shopper is very
short. You only have a few sentences to convince
them.
Tip 4:
'Cross promoting to increase your sales'
Cross promoting with other companies will benefit
all parties involved. Companies get more exposure
to new potential customers and customers get more
information in fewer locations. Find companies
that offer products that compliment your product(s).
Offer them reciprocal advertising to be included
with the holiday promotions. This will allow you
to take advantage of a new group of potential
customers otherwise not easily available to you.
Tip 5:
'Quick and Convenient shipping'
Out of 100 customers that purchase online, 86
of them will be satisfied and 14 of them will
be unsatisfied. One of the biggest complaints
from the unsatisfied customers is late delivery
in shipping. Companies make it possible for their
customers to purchase products online for convenience,
so make it that way for the customer. But if your
company is poor with on-time shipping, you may
lose this option of purchasing by unpopular demand.
No one I can think of would be happy with a company
if they purchased a gift and were told they would
receive it on December 23, and ended up receiving
it December 26.
Notifying your customers that the shipment will
be sent UPS or FedEx may make them feel a little
more assured that they will receive their package
on time. It can also give them the option to track
their shipment so they know exactly when they'll
get it.
Another shipping option you could offer besides
shipping to the customer, is if they purchased
the product as a gift, you could ship directly
to the person they purchased the gift for. Then
your customer won't have to worry about receiving
the gift, then turning around and shipping it
again. You can even offer gift wrapping. The more
convenient for the customer, the better you look.
